BCCI has announced the Rohit Sharma-led India's ODI squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka which is set to start from August 2. Rohit Sharma is back in the fold after leading India to T20 World Cup title triumph last month. Meanwhile, India's ODI squad has seen few surprise entries and exits. While Shreyas Iyer has made his comeback to India's squad, Ishan Kishan has been ignored once again. Rohit Sharma returns to lead the ODI charge, with Shubman Gill taking over the vice-captaincy.
Exciting new faces emerge
India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka promises a blend of experience and fresh faces. While Jasprit Bumrah gets a well-deserved rest, senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return for the ODI series. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant take the wicketkeeping gloves, with Sanju Samson missing out. This series marks the maiden ODI call-ups for both Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana. The impressive IPL season of pacer Harshit Rana for champions Kolkata Knight Riders earns him a well-deserved call-up to the ODI squad, alongside Khaleel Ahmed. Parag was also included in T20I squad in the just-concluded Zimbabwe series which India won 4-1.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have been rested for the ODI series. This tour also marks a new era for the Indian team under the watchful eye of head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir takes the reins following Rahul Dravid's successful tenure that culminated in the T20 World Cup victory. This will be India's first bilateral white-ball series in Sri Lanka since 2021, offering exciting opportunities for both established players and newcomers.
