K Srikkanth says Gambhir changed his statement on Rohit and Kohli.

Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the new Indian head coach became one of the biggest topics of discussion. Everyone was talking about how his relationship gonna be with the senior players, especially Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. However, the ex-KKR mentor was all praise for the RO-KO duo and called them true match winners. Now, former Indian player K Srikkanth has said that Gambhir has taken an u-turn from his previous remarks about Rohit and Virat after becoming the coach.

Gautam Gambhir on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Gambhir heavily praised the duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during his first press conference as the Indian head coach. He referred to them as match-winners and also expressed his hopes that Virat and Rohit would be available for most matches and even the 2027 World Cup if they are fit enough to continue.

"They have shown what they can deliver on the big stage. Both have lot of cricket left in them. The Champions Trophy, if they keep their fitness then even the 2027 World Cup. How long they can continue is their personal decision. Looking at what they can deliver, they are still world class and any team would want to have both of them," Gambhir said in his first press conference.

"I've said it before, workload management for someone like Jasprit (Bumrah) is important. He is one rare bowler, which anyone would want. You want him to play important games. That's why the workload management for not just him but fast bowlers is important. If you are a batter, who's batting well, you might as well just play all formats. Rohit and Virat have retired from T20Is now, so they will play two formats from now. Hopefully they are available for most of the games," he added.

K Srikkanth on Gautam Gambhir

Former player K Srikkanth shared his view on Gambhir and said he had earlier said that senior players will have no place in his team if they fail to perform in the T20 World Cup but changed his statement after becoming the coach of the Men in Blue side.

"Gautam Gambhir has taken a U-turn. Before the T20 World Cup 2024, he was saying if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not perform, they will not sit in my team. Then he took a U-turn now, saying there is no player like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After becoming head coach, he said that both have a lot of cricket left and hopefully they will fit for the 2027 World Cup," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
