Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up on picking a wicketkeeper batter for India for the first ODI against Sri Lanka which is scheduled to take place on August 02. India's squad have two wicketkeeper batters for the series against the Island nation. Rohit said that it is hard to choose between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant for the wicketkeeper-batter slot for the upcoming game in R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
However, India's captain reckoned that this is nice to have such problems while picking up a team. He said that he would look forward to seeing these problems till he is leading the side.
It is a tough call. Both are quality players. They are match-winners in their own way. It is always nice to have problems picking up the team like that" said Rohit in pre match conference.
"When you are discussing too much on who to pick or leave, then that means there is quality in the team. Which I think is a good thing. I am captain and I look forward to these problems," he concluded his point.
When asked about picking one wicketkeeper between the two, Rohit said that he would discuss that with the coach.
"I will need to discuss with the head coach. You will see it tomorrow when we play the game," he said.
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant is currently in the lethal form he featured for India in T20 World Cup 2024 and after that, he was the part of India's T20I squad against Sri Lanka. Considering his current form he will be a vital cog for India.
KL Rahul
On the other hand, KL Rahul was the hot pick of captain before the series and several reports were claiming that Rohit Sharma would miss the series. KL Rahul is a more promising batter in terms of experience and he can bat at any number. However, his last international outing was against South Africa.
