Suryakumar Yadav is gearing up for his first official stint as Team India captain, leading the team in a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The series kicks off on July 27 in Pallekele and concludes on July 30th. Notably, Suryakumar emerged as the captaincy frontrunner over Hardik Pandya, who wasn't even included as the T20I vice-captain. This isn't entirely new territory for Suryakumar. He previously led India in a five-match T20I series against Australia in November 2023, securing a convincing 4-1 series win. He also led the team to a 1-1 draw in the subsequent three-match series against South Africa in December. Suryakumar will be ably supported by Shubman Gill, who has been named vice-captain for both the T20I and ODI legs of the Sri Lanka tour.
