Indian captain Rohit Sharma has shared insights into his conversations with new head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The skipper also addressed the often-asked question about Gambhir's serious demeanor. Rohit revealed that his discussions with the coach centered around India's preparation for the next ICC event. The Indian team has already commenced training under Gambhir's guidance, as they gear up for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

 

“We were talking about cricket that how we need to take the team forward where all do we lack and where all have we performed well. Basically, it was just about catching up as we couldn’t meet before and we only met here (in Sri Lanka). So, we were discussing about our plans ahead for the upcoming tournaments,” said Rohit in the pre-match press conference.

Rohit also discussed Gambhir’s humorous side in the dressing room, revealing that he often cracks a lot of jokes.

 

“Gautu Bhai has a lot of fun in the dressing room and cracks jokes. It’s his personal thing and we shouldn’t try and get into his personal space that whether he will smile or not. Everyone is unique, it’s someone’s personal choice,” he added.

 

India aim to continue winning streak against Sri Lanka

 

India will kick off their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka on Friday, August 2. Buoyed by their recent 3-0 T20I series victory, the Indian team is looking to maintain their dominance. The series also marks the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to ODI cricket after the 2023 World Cup. With the 2025 Champions Trophy on the horizon, India will be eager to experiment and finalise their playing combination. The team has a limited number of ODIs scheduled before the tournament, making this series crucial for their preparations.
