Shubman Gill, the young and promising Indian opener, said he went back to the basics and followed the ‘old template’ to regain his T20I form. The star player's strategy seems to have paid off, as evidenced in India's victory in the fourth T20I against West Indies.

The 23-year-old batting sensation faced a temporary slump in his batting, scoring only 3, 7, and 6 in the first three T20Is against West Indies. However, he showcased his batting prowess and determination during India's remarkable nine-wicket triumph over the West Indies, scoring a commendable 77 off 47 balls.

Reflecting on his experience, Gill said, "In the first three matches, I could not even score 10, today (the) wicket was a bit better, so wanted to capitalise. Then when I got a good start, we just wanted to finish it." This statement came during a post-match discussion with his team-mate, the Punjab pacer Arshdeep Singh.

Gill further explained the unpredictable nature of the T20 format, noting that sometimes even good shots can be caught by fielders when batsmen are looking to score quickly. "It's important to go to your basics. You just look at what your template was when you were consistently scoring runs. You have to identify whether you are making any mistake. I felt I wasn't making a mistake in any of the three matches. But I couldn't convert my starts," Gill elaborated.

In the same match, Arshdeep Singh showcased an impressive bowling performance, claiming figures of 3/38. The talented left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, followed suit by restricting the West Indies with figures of 2/26, thus holding them at 178/8.

The Indian batting duo, Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, started the chase with a bang, weaving a 165-run opening partnership and setting India on the path to victory.

This exhilarating win balanced the scales, making the five-match series 2-2. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the series decider, which will unfold later on Sunday.
