Rested for the second ODI against West Indies, former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal carried drinks for India’s lower order batters at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Kohli and Chahal walked out with drinks after the 37th over for Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav when India’s score was 167/7. The video has gone viral on the internet as fans have lauded Kohli’s gesture despite being one of the most senior players in the side.

The partnership did not last long as Thakur lost his wicket to Alzarri Joseph two balls later. Thakur was trapped in front of the stumps He reviewed the decision as well but the impact was umpire’s call could not be reversed.

After West Indies skipper Shai Hope won the toss and opted to field first, openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill got the visitors off to a terrific start. Kishan and Gill shared a 90-run opening partnership. Replacing skipper Rohit Sharma and Kohli in the side, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel got out for single-digit scores. Stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya could not score in double digits either.

Suryakumar Yadav showed promise but once again wasted a good start. As a result, India got all out for 181 from 40.5 overs. From 90/0, India lost 10 wickets from 91 runs.

Earlier, when Pandya walked out for coin toss, he explained why Rohit and Kohli have been rested. "Rohit and Virat have been playing constant cricket, few questions need to be answered for us so they are resting in this game. They can be fresh for the third ODI,” the all-rounder said.

Earlier this week, in the first ODI, Kohli did not come out to bat after Indian bowlers bundled out West Indies for a record 114. Suryakumar was promoted up the order to no.3. Even when five wickets fell, Kohli was in the dressing room. Skipper Rohit walked out to bat and finished the game with Ravindra Jadeja on a track which assisted the spinners.
