IND vs WI: Wasim Jaffer launches scathing attack on Shubman Gill, says ‘he better get used to conditions outside of Ahmedabad’

The recent West Indies T20I series hasn't been favorable for India opener, Shubman Gill. Despite showcasing a stellar performance with an 85-run innings in the final ODI that spearheaded India's series triumph, Gill has failed to reach double figures in the three T20Is that he has played so far against West Indies.

Wasim Jaffer, the former Indian batter, chimed in on Gill's slump during an interaction on ESPNCricinfo, stressing the necessity of adapting to varied conditions. Drawing attention to the idiosyncrasies of the West Indies pitches, Jaffer pointed out, "These West Indies surfaces are like that, you have to wait for it and can't just keep hitting on the rise which Shubman likes." He further underlined the value of adaptability, mentioning, "But one thing he needs to understand is he is not going to get conditions like Ahmedabad everywhere. So the better he gets used to the other surfaces and adapts to the surfaces it's going to do him wonders."

Delving deeper into the analysis, Jaffer highlighted Gill's approach at the crease, observing, "Shubman is not somebody who goes from ball one. He is not that kind of a player so he takes his time at the start. He has a habit of reaching towards the ball when the ball is not coming on."

With India trailing 1-2 in the series, all eyes are set on the fourth T20I in Florida. The Sunshine State is rumored to offer a batting-friendly turf, heightening expectations for a high-scoring contest.

Offering insights on the forthcoming match conditions, India's bowling coach touched upon the distinctive nature of the pitches. Drawing parallels to the black soil predominantly found in North India, he commented, "It is a little bit different with the black soil. The kind of soil we get in north of India. It is going to be a good wicket to bat on. The ball will come on to the bat. That is what we saw in the nets. Looks like it is going to be a high-scoring game."

As the series progresses, it remains to be seen if Gill can recalibrate his batting strategy, taking cues from the insights shared, to reclaim his ODI magic.
