West Indies continue their horrendous run against India in the first ODI of the three-ODI series at home. West Indies were put to bat first by Rohit Sharma and they were bundled out for 114 from 23 overs. This is West Indies' lowest ODI total against India at home.

The numbers game

This is West Indies' joint third-lowest ODI total at home. Their lowest ODI total of 98 at home came against Pakistan in 2013. Also, this is the second-lowest ODI total for West Indies against India. Their lowest ODI total against India (104) came in Thiruvananthapuram in 2018.

West Indies batting lineup lasted for only 23 overs. This is the second-fewest overs they have faced in an allout innings while batting first. Their previous lowest of 22 overs came against Bangladesh in 2011 when they were bundled out for 61.

Also, this is the fewest overs Indian bowlers have taken to bowl out an opponent in the first innings. The previous fewest overs required were 25.2 against England at the Oval. Considering both innings, this is the joint-third fewest overs required for India to bowl an opponent. India's best in the format is 17.4 overs when Stuart Binny's six-fer helped them bundle out Bangladesh for 58 in 2014.

Pacers set the tone

Hardik Pandya was the first one to strike in the third over with the wicket of Kyle Mayers. Alick Athanaze became debutant Mukesh Kumar's maiden ODI wicket in the eighth over. Then Brandon King got bowled by Shardul Thakur.

Jadeja, Kuldeep haunt WI batters

Skipper Shai Hope kept running out of partners as Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav rushed through West Indies’ batting lineup. Jadeja took three wickets from his six overs whereas the left-arm chinaman bowler who was introduced in the 19th over took four wickets from just three overs to mop up the long tail.

Kuldeep conceded just six runs from his three overs, bowled a wicket-maiden and then a double wicket-maiden to wrap up the innings.

Skipper and wicketkeeper-batter Hope turned out to be the top-scorer for the hosts. He scored 43 runs from 45 balls including four fours and a six.
