Suryakumar Yadav's flop show continues in the ongoing West Indies 2023 tour, as he was dismissed for just a single run in the second T20I in Guyana on Sunday, August 6.
Suryakumar's performance during the West Indies tour has been below par. His performance in the three One Day Internationals (ODIs) did not match his standard, with scores of 19, 24, and 35, failing to score even a half-century. Nevertheless, India secured the series with a comprehensive 200-run victory in the third ODI, marking their 13th consecutive series win.
In the inaugural T20 International series match at the Brian Lara Stadium, Yadav contributed with a run-a-ball 21. His performance was crucial, given that the Indian batting lineup heavily relies on him. However, former India batter Aakash Chopra while commentating said that Suryakumar Yadav needs to consistently score runs for the team's success.
Yadav has an impressive overall T20I record, with 1675 runs from 46 innings, boasting an average of 46.52 and a strike rate of 175.76. His highest T20I score is 117. In contrast, his ODI record is less impressive, with 476 runs from 23 innings, an average of 23.80, and a strike rate of 100.42. His top score in ODIs is 64.
Talking about the second T20I between India and West Indies, the Mumbai-based player had an unfortunate stint at the crease. India lost Shubman Gill early on for just seven runs, after which Suryakumar made his entrance. The 32-year-old appeared uneasy during his time at the crease, and his innings concluded disappointingly in the fourth over.
In a bid for a single run, Suryakumar chose to challenge Kyle Mayers, who had previously run out Sanju Samson in the first match in Trinidad. Luck was on Mayers' side again, as he succeeded in dismissing Suryakumar Yadav, who failed to survive despite a dive.
