On his Test match debut, young prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal left an ever-lasting impression on cricket followers around the world. The left-handed batter scored a well-constructed century in the first Test match against West Indies. The southpaw displayed great composure and patience as he batted for a record 387 deliveries on his debut and scored 171 runs with the help of 16 fours and one sixes. It was a dream come true moment for Jaiswal, who once used to sell 'pani puri' for pocket money.
After Jaiswal achieved his dream of playing for India and capping it off by making it even more memorable with a century on debut, the 21-year-old had an emotional conversation with his father, Bhupendra. The left-handed batter called up his father at 4:30 AM IST and cried after being overwhelmed by the moment and emotion.
"He called around 4:30 am in the morning (IST) after scoring his century (Day 2). He couldn't hold back his tears. I cried too. It was a very emotional moment. He could not talk for a long time. He was tired. He just asked me 'are you happy, father?'," Jaiswal's father Bhupendra told the Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, India wrapped up the first Test against the West Indies in just three days as they secured a massive innings and 141-run victory over the hosts in Roseau, Dominica, on Friday, July 15. Windies needed 271 runs to take the lead but seven wickets by Ravichandran Ashwin bundled them for 130 runs in the second innings. However, the hero with the bat on his Test debut was Yashasvi Jaiswal.
"It's really nice, I have been working for this. I've been focusing on preparing well and having discipline. Playing Test cricket for India is very special and emotional for me. This is just the start, I need to keep my focus and keep working on my cricket," Jaiswal said after winning the Man of the Match award.
