Shubman Gill has broken legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar's record on Zimbabwe soil. Gill now holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Zimbabwe in ODIs. It was a long time coming for Gill, who has lost his wicket in the 90s multiple times.
The starlet has been brilliant throughout the series in the absence of Virat Kohli. Gill is currently playing on no. 3, in the absence of Kohli but might cement his place in the team.
Gill hit 130 runs for the side during the third ODI, leading India to a formidable total of 289 runs. His innings of 130 runs came off 97 balls, striking at a rate of 134.02. He hit 15 fours and a six, and also set up a 140-run partnership with Ishan Kishan for the third wicket. Kishan himself scored 50 runs in 61 balls before he was run out by Tony Munyonga.
Back in 1998, 25-year-old Sachin Tendulkar carried the bat with his brilliantly hit 127 runs off 130 balls as India chased down a total of 213 runs with ease. He was ably helped by Rahul Dravid, who hit a 98-ball 64.
Gill, however, did go on to lose his wicket in the first ball of the final over of India's innings, after he misjudged a length ball that was outside off from Brad Evans as the ball flew into the hands of Innocent Kaia.
India have already sealed the ODI series after winning the first two matches and will be hoping to complete their whitewash if they manage to keep the Zimbabweans from chasing down their competitive title
