India's fast-bowling production line has unearthed yet another exciting prospect. Ashok Sharma has officially received his maiden India cap after captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed at the toss that the 24-year-old would make his international debut in the opening T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.

It was Ashok's elder brother, Akshay Sharma, who made the ultimate sacrifice. Having played district-level cricket himself, Akshay stepped aside so his younger brother could continue pursuing a professional career.
Years later, that decision has culminated in Ashok becoming India's newest international cricketer.
Record-breaking domestic season
Ashok first announced himself on the national stage during the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he emerged as the tournament's leading wicket-taker.
The right-arm pacer claimed 22 wickets in just 10 matches, consistently troubling batters with his ability to hit hard lengths while generating sharp pace and bounce.
His performances immediately attracted attention from IPL franchises, who identified him as one of India's fastest emerging bowlers.
The IPL success
Ashok Sharma's domestic exploits earned him a contract with Gujarat Titans, who signed him for ₹90 lakh during the IPL 2026 auction.
Working under former India pacer Ashish Nehra, the youngster quickly established himself as one of the tournament's breakout stars.
One delivery, in particular, grabbed everyone's attention.
Against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ashok bowled the fastest delivery of IPL 2026, clocking 154.2 kmph to dismiss Dhruv Jurel.

Ashok Sharma responded brilliantly by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane, Sarfaraz Khan, and Siddhesh Lad, helping Rajasthan wrestle back control after Mumbai had made a strong start.
