Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was left fuming by the poor standard of umpiring in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on July 22. Harmanpreet showed dissent when she was given out leg before wicket in the run chase. Angered by the decision, she hit the stumps with her bat. As she walked back to the dressing room, she pointed towards the bat signalling to the umpire that the ball had hit her bat.
Harmanpreet got out after scoring 13 runs from 21 balls including two fours. She was dismissed by Nahida Akter who went on to take three wickets in the tied ODI that went till the last over. She could not review the decision as now Decision Review System (DRS) was available.
The 34-year-old did not hold back in the post-match presentation and lambasted on-field umpires. She went on to say that she would kept it in mind before coming to play to Bangladesh next time.
“I think a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly… as I mentioned earlier some pathetic umpiring was done we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” she said.
While Jemimah Rodrigues shared a crucial partnership with Harleen Deol who scored 77 runs, India suffered a batting collapse losing six wickets for 34 runs and the match ended in a tie. There was no super over as the match went over scheduled time due to rain interruption.
Harmanpreet is likely to get fined by International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Code of Conduct. The ODI series ended in a 1-1 tie. This is the first time India have failed to win an ODI series against Bangladesh.
