India women's cricket team's captain Harmanpreet Kaur was furious at umpires after the third and final ODI of the series ended in a tie. Harmanpreet was not satisfied with the level of umpiring in the final. She was given out lbw but bat was involved. It led to Harmanpreet hitting the stumps with bat in anger.
“I think a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly,” the 34-year-old said in the post-match presentation.
“They (Bangladesh) batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between we leaked a few runs but we controlled the game very well when we were batting but as I mentioned earlier some pathetic umpiring was done we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires.”
Harmanpreet also revealed that her hand is fine. She lauded Harleen Deol for her 77-run knock as she justified her promotion up the order. She also praised Jemimah Rodrigues who remained stranded on one end in the tied affair at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
“She [Harleen] looked very promising in the last game, so we promoted her to bat freely and she took the opportunity with both hands. Jemi was really good throughout the innings. She played well,” the all-rounder said.
Harmanpreet also thanked the crowd support throughout the series as she said, “Good game, lot of learnings and lastly our High Commission from India is also there and I hope you could have invited him here, but that is also fine. And thank you sir for coming here. Crowd was really amazing, they were cheering both the teams throughout the game. And games like these you need crowd support and they have been amazing throughout the tournament.”
In the run chase of 226, India lost six wickets for 34 runs and got all out. There was no super over as the match went over scheduled time after rain played spoilsport. The series ended in 1-1 and the trophy was shared. This is the first time India have not won an ODI series against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh opener created history in the final as she became the first batter from her country to score a century in women's ODIs. She was adjudged ‘Player of the match’ for her 107-run knock.
