In-form Indian opener Smriti Mandhana has become the fastest to 3,000 ODI runs. Mandhana surpassed legendary Mithali Raj and current skipper Harmanpreet Kaur behind with the 40-run knock against England in the ongoing second ODI at St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury.
Mandhana reached the landmark with a four off Kate Cross in the eighth over. This was her 76th innings in ODI cricket.
The southpaw became the third-fastest in women's ODI cricket to breach the 3,000-run mark. Australia's Belinda Clark holds the top position as she achieved the milestone in her 62nd innings. She is followed by Australian skipper Meg Lanning (64). The third spot is also occupied by Australia's Karen Rolton and South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt.
She also became the third fastest Indian (men's and women's cricket) to complete 3,000 ODIs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and former skipper Virat Kohli completed the same from 72 innings and 75 innings respectively. Overall, she is 11th on the list.
The 26-year-old has scored at an average over 43 in ODIs. She has scored five centuries and 24 half-centuries so far.
Mandhana is now 22nd on the list of leading run-scorer in ODIs. In India, she is the third-highest run-scorer after Mithali and Harmanpreet. While Mithali retired after scoring 7,805 runs from 232 ODIs, Harmanpreet does not have many runs between her and Mandhana.
Mandhana has been in top form of late. She scored a match-winning 91 in the first ODI while chasing. Earlier, she scored an unbeaten 79 in the last T20I of the T20I series against the English side.
