Watch: Hours after crying over Mankad dismissal, England bowler Charlie Dean attempts it unsuccessfully in domestic game

It hasn’t been even 24 hours since Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean to win the final ODI of the three-ODI series at Lord’s. Former cricketers and fans are still divided over Deepti’s legal move to dismiss non-striker Charlie for backing up too far before the ball is released. On the other hand, the England bowling all-rounder seems to have learned her lesson and moved on. At the same venue, she tried dismissing the non-striker but did not succeed.

In the Rachael Hehoe Flint Trophy final, Charlie stopped just before her run-up in the eighth over of the game. However, Northern Diamonds opener Linsey Smith was well aware and did not cross the line before the ball was released.

The Southern Vipers spinner was all smiles after the unsuccessful attempt. A day before, she was in tears after the dismissal. Deepti had noticed Charlie taking a start in order to get on the strike. But Deepti outsmarted her with her game appearance and helped visitors win by 16 runs in a low-scoring encounter.

The 21-year-old was leading hosts in the run chase before her dismissal. The no.9 batter had scored 47 runs from 80 deliveries including five boundaries. She had helped England recover from 65/7 in the 17th over and shared crucial partnerships with skipper Amy Jones, Kate Cross and Freya Davies to get her side back in the game while chasing 170.

The dismissal led to huge uproar from English fans as they booed Indian players. On the other hand, they were clapping when Charlie attempted the same.

Even the broadcaster tried to get a controversial answer out of Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur in the post-match presentation to which she said. “To be honest, I thought you will ask about all the 10 wickets which was not easy to take as well [on being probed about the last wicket]. It's part of the game I don't think we have done something new. It shows your awareness, what batters are doing. I will back my players, she hasn't done something outside the rules. At the end of the day a win is a win and we will take that.”
