England all-rounder Charlie Dean said that it was an honour to play at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, keeping aside the controversy that marred the end of a closely contested match against Harmanpreet Kaur’s India at the iconic venue. It was the third and final match of their Women’s ODI series, and Dean was controversially run out by Deepti Sharma at the non-striker’s end when England needed 17 runs to win with plenty of overs in hand.
Dean took to her Instagram handle and wrote, “An interesting end to the summer. What an honour it is to play at lords in England colours. I guess I’ll just stay in my crease from now on.”
England went on to lose the match by 16 runs meaning that the visitors had created history by completing a 0-3 series whitewash. After getting run out, Dean also vowed not to leave the crease from now onwards.
Earlier, Deepti said that India had warned Dean plenty of times before dismissing her at the fag end of the close encounter.
However, Dean mentioned that no warning was given to her. England skipper Heather Knight, who is recovering from a hip injury, joined in the controversy by saying that India shouldn’t feel the need to lie to justify the dismissal at the Home of Cricket.
Dean was batting on 47 in the last ODI and was looking good to take England through to victory. She was also involved in a 35-run stand for the last wicket with Freya Davies before being run out.
Later, Dean was seen in tears as Davies consoled her. Dean scored 108 runs from three matches at an average of 54. Moreover, she also picked up three wickets in the white-ball series.
