Delhi Capitals (DC) lost their last encounter against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 47 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, on May 12. DC was chasing a target of 188 and missed the services of their skipper Rishabh Pant who is also their highest run-scorer this season. Pant was fined and suspended for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for maintaining a slow over-rate against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Speaking ahead of their clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), DC assistant coach Pravin Amre opened up on Pant’s ban and stated his absence affected their batting line-up. He also made sure Pant will be returning in the next match.
“The way he is playing this year he is the highest run-getter during the year but rules are rules. We missed him because of the rule. It affected our batting line up and sure tomorrow, he will be there, and we will finish well”, Amre said to ANI.
In the run-chase of 188 runs, DC was reeling at 30/4 until Shai Hope and stand-in captain Axar Patel’s partnership brought them back into the game. However, DC was bowled out for only 140 by 19.1 overs.
‘The committee will decide what is better for IPL’
The former Indian cricketer further talked about the high-scoring matches this season where teams scored more than 250 runs in 20 overs and said it was surprising.
"I feel IPL's governing body will look into it. It is also important to know that for the crowd it was surprising to see teams scoring 500 runs in a T20 match. That's happened in IPL. So, the committee will decide what is better for IPL," the assistant coach added.
DC standing in the sixth spot
Rishabh Pant-led DC will be playing their last league stage match against LSG, on May 14 and the side is virtually knocked out of the playoff. They suffered a 47-run loss in their last match which has affected their net run rate and a win in this match will not cement their place in the playoff. DC have won six out of 13 matches this season and are at the sixth spot with 12 points.
