The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are off to a tremendous start to the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While it is still early days in the tournament, the defending champions have looked solid in all facets of the game - be it bowling, batting, or fielding. The Super Kings have played two matches in the competition so far and registered two convincing victories.
The Men in Yellow first overpowered the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and followed it up with a resounding win over the Gujarat Titans.
MS Dhoni has yet to face a ball
While the CSK fans are ecstatic after their team's superb start to the season, the cricket fans in general are a little disappointed as they are yet to watch MS Dhoni bat in the tournament. The wicketkeeper-batter and former skipper, MS Dhoni is yet to face a ball in the 2024 IPL and the fans are eagerly waiting to watch 'Thala' wield his sword.
CSK batting coach Michael Hussey spoke about why Dhoni hasn't batted in the tournament thus far and why he continues to slip down in the batting order.
"It's definitely been a directive from Fleming. To keep pushing the game forward. With the Impact Player rule coming in, we got basically an extra batter and a bowler. So the batting order keeps lengthening up. I think we have got MS Dhoni at No.8, which is crazy. MSD is batting really well at the moment as well," said Hussey.
"Because we have got so much depth in our resources, it means that the players up the order, if they're in two minds, take the positive route. And they certainly have the backing from the coaches and the captain that we prefer you to keep pushing the game as forward as you much as you can. If you get out in doing so, that's fine. You're not going to be criticised for that. Fleming's talk is about playing fast, we want to keep playing fast," said Hussey.
