Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru are set to compete against Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians in match 25 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium, on April 11 (Thursday). Star batter Virat Kohli is eyeing another historic record in the upcoming match between RCB and MI.
Virat Kohli eyes historic record
The former RCB skipper has already hit a century in IPL 2024. He currently has 8 IPL centuries and a total of 9 T20 tons. If Kohli smashes a hundred in the match against Mumbai at Wankhede, he will have 10 T20 centuries and he will become the first-ever Indian cricketer to reach this milestone and the third cricketer overall. The only other cricketers to have this feat in front of their names are Chris Gayle (22 T20 tons) and Babar Azam (11 T20 tons).
Kohli will also become the only cricketer to hit two or more centuries in three different IPL seasons. He also did the same during the 2016 and 2023 seasons of the Indian Premier League. Virat's performance will be crucial for Royal Challengers Bengaluru to pick up a big win against MI.
Battle for survival
Currently, both MI and RCB are in the bottom three of the points table. Both of them have just one win and two points. Mumbai is at the 8th spot and Bengaluru at 9th. Another loss here for either of the sides can potentially end their hopes and chances to make it into the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Mumbai will be coming into this match after winning their first game of the season and will try to bank on the momentum and get more wins. On the other hand, this will be RCB's sixth match, and losing this one can throw them to the bottom of the points table.
The only brighter side for RCB is Virat Kohli's performance with bat. He is currently the leading runs scorer with 316 runs in 5 matches and is batting with an astonishing average of 105.33. He has also been facing some criticism over his strike rate but his tournament strike rate has been 146.30 so far.
