Former India batter Mohammad Kaif raised two questions on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins' decision to withdraw the obstructing the field appeal against Ravindra Jadeja during the match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the Indian Premier League (IPL) match held on April 5 (Friday), a contentious moment transpired which ultimately ended up with SRH displaying a fair play aspect of their game.

During the fourth ball of the 19th over during the Super Kings' innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar tried to run out Ravindra Jadeja after the ball deflected off the latter's pad and went straight to the former in his follow-through. Bhuvneshwar fired the ball at the stumps but Jadeja was in the firing line and was hit on the back.

After a subdued appeal, the on-field umpires got together and referred the matter to the third umpire. But the umpires soon changed their minds after Cummins decided to withdraw the appeal.

Kaif questions Cummins' decision

Reflecting on Cummins' decision, Mohammad Kaif asked two questions pertaining to Cummins' decision. One was whether it was a tactical ploy to not dismiss Jadeja as he was struggling to score runs freely while the other was if Cummins would do the same thing against Virat Kohli during the T20 World Cup.

"Two questions to Pat Cummins on withdrawing the obstructing the field appeal against Jadeja. Was it a tactical call to let a struggling Jadeja be the crease and keep Dhoni indoors? Would he have done the same if it was Virat Kohli at World T20?" Kaif wrote on X.
