The IPL 2024 standings saw a shakeup after the Punjab Kings (PBKS) upset the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets at Chepauk on May 1. This win propelled PBKS one position higher in the IPL 2024's points table, jumping over Gujarat Titans (GT) who also have four wins from ten matches. PBKS now sits comfortably in seventh place. CSK, despite the loss, remain in fourth place with five wins from ten matches. The top three spots are currently held by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). LSG, with six wins from ten matches, sits in third, while KKR boasts the same number of wins but with a superior net run rate of 1.096, securing them the second spot. KKR's most recent victory came against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 29th, where they dominated with a seven-wicket win. Rajasthan Royals (RR) stand tall at the top of the table. With eight wins from nine matches, they've practically secured their spot in the playoffs, leaving other teams scrambling to catch up. Their last victory came against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on April 27.
MI, RCB biting dust at bottom of the table
At the other end of the spectrum, things are bleak for some. Mumbai Indians (MI), the five-time champions, find themselves languishing in ninth place with just three wins from ten matches. They've even suffered defeats in their last three outings under Hardik Pandya's leadership. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) share the bottom spot with MI. They too have only managed three wins from ten matches. However, unlike MI, RCB has shown a flicker of hope by winning their last two games. Despite the late surge, their qualification for the playoffs remains uncertain.
This is how IPL 2024's points table looks like after CSK vs PBKS's clash:
Team | Mat | Won | Lost | Points | NRR |
Rajasthan Royals | 9 | 8 | 1 | 16 | +0.694 |
Kolkata Knight Riders | 9 | 6 | 3 | 12 | +1.096 |
Lucknow Super Giants | 10 | 6 | 4 | 12 | +0.094 |
Chennai Super Kings | 10 | 5 | 4 | 10 | +0.627 |
Sunrisers Hyderabad | 9 | 5 | 4 | 10 | +0.075 |
Delhi Capitals | 11 | 5 | 6 | 10 | -0.442 |
Punjab Kings | 10 | 4 | 6 | 8 | -0.062 |
Gujarat Titans | 10 | 4 | 6 | 8 | -1.113 |
Mumbai Indians | 10 | 3 | 7 | 6 | -0.272 |
Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 10 | 3 | 7 | 6 | -0.415 |
The upcoming clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 2 in Hyderabad promises to be a pivotal one. SRH, currently sitting in fifth place with five wins, will be hungry for a victory to climb into the top four of the IPL standings. A win against the league leaders would be a major boost for their playoff hopes. On the other hand, RR, comfortably perched at the top with eight wins, are eyeing another two points to solidify their place in the playoffs. They're almost there, but a win against SRH would be the icing on the cake.
