In a thrilling IPL 2024 encounter at Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings (PBKS) emerged victorious against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a convincing eight-wicket margin. This win propelled PBKS up the points table as they pulled off a historic 262-run chase against KKR to leave everyone stunned. Punjab Kings' dominant victory came at a perfect time, propelling them past Mumbai Indians and into eighth place in the IPL 2024 points table. This win was a much-needed turnaround after a five-match losing streak, marking their third win overall this season.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders held onto their second position despite a slight setback with 10 points from eight games. Their net run rate dipped to +0.972, but it remains the highest among all teams in the league. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals continues to reign supreme at the top of the table, boasting an impressive record of seven wins from eight matches and a total of 14 points.

KKR vs PBKS' match highlights

The Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a flying start, setting a formidable total of 261 runs on the board thanks to brilliant batting displays by Phil Salt (75 runs) and Sunil Narine (71 runs). Chasing this mammoth target, the Punjab Kings openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow, exploded out of the gates. They put on a quickfire 93-run partnership within the powerplay. Singh was particularly destructive, scoring a blistering 54 runs off just 20 balls. Bairstow continued the onslaught, finding another valuable partnership of 85 runs with Rilee Rossouw. However, despite their aggressive batting, Punjab still had a significant chunk of runs to chase, needing 84 runs off the remaining 39 balls. The momentum remained firmly with Punjab Kings. When Shashank Singh came into bat, he continued the carnage. His innings was a whirlwind of six-hitting, smashing eight sixes and two boundaries in a rapid-fire 68 runs off just 28 balls. His knock included the winning shot off Ramandeep Singh, securing a historic victory for Punjab Kings with a staggering eight wickets and eight balls to spare.
