Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2024 clash.

With this win SRH surged to fifth place in IPL 2024's points tabe.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points table saw some significant shifts after its 18th match of the season which saw Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, April 5 in Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Upward Surge

SRH got the better of Chennai Super Kings by six wickets, handing CSK their second consecutive loss. This win propelled SRH to the coveted fifth position in the points table. Earlier, they were stationed at seventh place in the standings. Meanwhile, KKR maintain top spot as Shreyas Iyer-led side continued their dominance, thrashing Delhi Capitals (DC) by a massive 105 runs in their last encounter. This dominant victory ensured KKR remained at the top of the standings.

While KKR celebrated, Rajasthan Royals (RR), who were previously leading the pack, dropped to the second position due to a lower net run rate compared to KKR.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants maintained their positions at third and fourth, respectively, despite Ruturaj Gaikwad's side suffered their first loss in IPL 2024.

DC and RCB's rollercoaster 

Delhi Capitals dropped to the ninth position after their crushing defeat to KKR. Only Mumbai Indians, who haven't secured a win yet, sit below them. Ironically, RCB benefitted from KKR's victory even though they haven't played. The massive win pushed RCB up a spot to eighth in the standings.

Meanwhile, the race for the playoffs in IPL 2024 is heating up. Currently, CSK, KKR, RR, and LSG are occupying the top four spots in the standings. These top four teams will battle it out for the championship title. Here's how the playoffs will unfold:

Qualifier 1: The teams ranked first and second will face off in this match. The winner gets a direct ticket to the final.
Eliminator: This match will feature the teams that finished third and fourth in the league stage. The winner gets another shot at glory.
Qualifier 2: The loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator will clash in this match. The victor will advance to the final.
The grand finale of IPL 2024 is scheduled for May 26. The winner of Qualifier 2 and the winner of Qualifier 1 will battle it out for the coveted IPL trophy.
