Over the last 16 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been several batters who have tormented bowlers with their explosive batting and six-hitting capability. As the 17th edition of the cash-rich tournament draws near, let's take a look at the list of batters who smashed the most sixes in each of the previous 16 seasons of IPL.
Sanath Jayasuriya
Mumbai Indians' Sanath Jayasuriya hit 31 sixes in 14 matches during the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Overall, the left-handed batter scored 518 runs.
Adam Gilchrist
In the IPL 2009, the second season of the league, Adam Gilchrist of the Deccan Chargers hit the most sixes. He scored 495 runs in 16 matches, which included 29 sixes.
Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa became the first Indian batter to hit the most sixes in a single IPL season. Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2010, Uthappa struck 27 sixes in 14 innings of 16 matches, scoring 374 runs that season.
Chris Gayle
In IPL 2011, playing for RCB, Chris Gayle unleashed havoc on the bowlers, hitting 44 sixes in just 12 matches. He became the player with the most sixes in a single IPL season, scoring 608 runs. Gayle later broke his own record.

In IPL 2014, Glenn Maxwell of the Punjab Kings hit the highest number of sixes, with 36 maximums in 16 matches. Maxwell scored 552 runs that season.
Chris Gayle
In IPL 2015, Chris Gayle led in sixes again, hitting 38 maximums in 14 matches and scoring 491 runs.
Virat Kohli
In IPL 2016, RCB's Virat Kohli hit the most sixes with 38 in 16 matches. He faced stiff competition from his teammate AB de Villiers, who hit 37 sixes that season.
Glenn Maxwell
Representing Punjab in IPL 2017, Maxwell hit 26 sixes in 13 innings of 14 matches, scoring 310 runs for the season.
Rishabh Pant
In the 2018 season, Rishabh Pant of the Delhi Capitals was the leading six-hitter, with 37 sixes in 14 matches. Pant scored 684 runs that season.
Andre Russell
In IPL 2019, Andre Russell of the Kolkata Knight Riders hit the most sixes with 52 maximums in 14 matches, scoring 510 runs that season.
Ishan Kishan
Playing for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020, Ishan Kishan led in sixes, hitting 30 maximums in 14 matches while scoring 516 runs.
KL Rahul
In IPL 2021, KL Rahul hit the most sixes for Punjab, striking 30 sixes in 13 matches of the league's 14th season and scoring a total of 626 runs.
Jos Buttler
Playing for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, Jos Buttler smashed the highest number of sixes, 45, in 17 matches, scoring 863 runs for the season.
Faf du Plessis
In the 2023 IPL season, the league's 16th season, Faf du Plessis of Royal Challengers Bangalore hit the most sixes, with 36 maximums in 14 matches. He scored 730 runs in the previous season.
