It was a record-breaking night at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for Virat Kohli on March 25 (Monday). Upon his return to his kingdom, Kohli roared with the bat like he had on so many occasions before. On the back of yet another masterclass of stroke-making, which came in a run chase, Kohli ensured Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden win of the new season. RCB defeated the Punjab Kings by four wickets and bagged two crucial points.
Kohli notches 100th 50-plus score in T20s
Virat Kohli stroked yet another half-century in his glittering career that set the stage for RCB's win on Monday. The stylish batter scored 77 runs off 49 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes. In the process, the 'King' secured yet another milestone to his already illustrious resume.
Kohli became the first-ever Indian to score 100 fifty-plus scores in T20s. No other Indian batter has more than fifty-plus scores in the shortest format of the game than Kohli. Chris Gayle has the most number of fifty-plus scores in T20s. The 'Universe Boss' has 110 fifty-plus scores to his name while David Warner has 109.
In terms of Indians, Rohit Sharma is the closest to Virat Kohli with 81 fifty-plus scores to his name.
Virat Kohli ties MS Dhoni, overtakes Raina
For his stellar innings against the Punjab Kings, Kohli was awarded the Man of the Match award. It was the 17th time that Kohli had received the award in the IPL. With the latest award, Kohli tied MS Dhoni's tally and the duo jointly occupies the fifth place.
In terms of catches, Kohli broke the record of Suresh Raina in the IPL. Kohli now has the most catches by a fielder in T20 cricket. Raina has 172 catches in 336 games while Kohli took 378 matches to overhaul the record.
