Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) superstar Virat Kohli registered his eighth century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 6 (Saturday). Kohli reached the three-figure mark in 67 balls and was the lone RCB batter who got going against the Rajasthan-based franchise at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. In the end, Kohli remained unbeaten on 113 runs off 72 balls with the help of 12 fours and four sixes.
Kohli's single-handed masterclass powered RCB's score to 183/3 in 20 overs. The stylish right-handed batter breached the 300-run mark in the 2024 IPL in just his fifth match. Kohli now has 316 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 146.30 with the help of one century and two half-centuries. He is leading the race to win yet another Orange Cap.
Virat extends his record
When it comes to the cash-rich tournament, no batter has scored more century in the history of the competition than Virat Kohli. The former RCB captain has eight centuries to his name in the glitzy league, which is two more than Chris Gayle who occupies the second position. Rajasthan Royals' explosive opening batter Jos Buttler is third with five centuries to his name in the IPL.
Virat has 3rd most centuries in T20s
When it comes to T20 cricket as a whole, Virat Kohli is third on the list of most centuries smashed by a batter. Along with his eight tons in the IPL, Kohli has one century for India in T20Is. Gayle leads all batters with a mind-boggling 22 centuries to his name in the shortest format of the sport. Pakistan's Babar Azam sits in second place with 11 centuries to his name in T20s.
Virat becomes first batter with 7,500 runs in IPL
In the match against RR, Kohli became the first batter in IPL history to score 7,500 runs. Overall, Kohli has 7,579 runs in 242 matches in IPL at a strike rate of 130.62 and an average of 38.27. Kohli has 52 half-centuries and eight centuries to his name in the cash-rich tournament.
