With Mumbai Indians (MI) out of the playoff contention, there is a burning speculation around the availability of superstar Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah for the franchise's remaining matches in the competition. The 2024 T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played right after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and thus, Rohit and Bumrah might eye some rest and refuel for the ICC tournament.
The decision to rest Rohit and Bumrah solely depends on the franchise owners as they are the ones forking out colossal sums of money.
MI batter Naman Dhir spilled the beans and revealed that there have been no such talks about resting the premier paceman of the franchise.
"Right now there are no talks regarding this, but it's up to (the team) management to take a decision," said Naman Dhir in the pre-match conference.
Update on Rohit Sharma's back injury
Naman Dhir also gave an update on Rohit's fitness and said that the Hitman is fit and fine as he showed up for the practice session ahead of the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit was experiencing back stiffness in the previous match and was used as an 'Impact Sub' by Mumbai Indians.
"He had a stiff back before the last game. The (T20) World Cup is approaching, so for precaution, he played as an impact sub. But he is here for practice today, so I guess he is all fit and fine," Dhir said.
The Mumbai Indians are scheduled to cross swords against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 6 (Monday) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai have lost eight of their 11 matches played so far and will now play their remaining three matches looking to salvage some pride.
