The 2024 season of the Indian Premier League marks a pivotal point in Riyan Parag's career.

Having made his debut for RR in 2019, Riyan Parag faced significant criticism for his batting in previous seasons.

The 22-year-old Riyan Parag has silenced critics with his performances in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Riyan has hit three fifties this season, positioning himself just behind Virat Kohli in the race for the Orange Cap. In his latest outing against the Gujarat Titans (GT), he scored his third fifty of the season. Despite his efforts, RR ended up losing the game by three wickets.

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar noted Riyan Parag's potential for an Indian team call-up, emphasising the importance of consistency throughout the season.

Riyan Parag finally arrives on the big stage

Alongside RR captain Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag was instrumental in setting a challenging total of 196 runs against GT. Having made his debut for RR in 2019, Riyan faced significant criticism for his batting in previous seasons. However, the 2024 season marks a pivotal point in his career, with his domestic cricket momentum seamlessly transitioning into the IPL.

Sunil Gavaskar praised the young player for capitalising on the opportunity presented to him. This season, Riyan Parag has been a crucial middle-order batter.

"Not just in the IPL, but right through the season, he has had enormous success. He is someone that the selection committee has got an eye on. And so all he needs to do is keep on batting the way he has been. His fielding, we all know about it, he is an excellent fielder. And he can bowl a few of those dribbly-dobbies, I call them mixed pakodas," Gavaskar added.

Despite suffering their first loss of the season, RR continues to lead the points table, boasting four wins from five matches. RR is set to face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on April 13.
