Dhoni remained unbeaten but the Super Kings lost the match by 20 runs.

After MS Dhoni rolled back the clock and played a vintage knock with the bat, albeit in a losing cause, millions of fans were thoroughly entertained by the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain's performance. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Delhi Capitals (DC), Dhoni scored 37 runs off 16 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. In the end, Dhoni remained unbeaten but the Super Kings lost the match by 20 runs. Dhoni walked out to bat at the No.8 position and got to play only 16 balls.

After the game, former India batter Mohammad Kaif was mighty impressed with Dhoni's effort with the bat and affirmed that the ideal batting position for the wicketkeeper-batter should be the No.4 or No.5 position.

"It didn't seem like he wasn't playing cricket regularly. He hasn't played Ranji or club cricket matches or is he playing for India. He is just playing IPL to IPL," Kaif said in a video he shared on X.

"But the way he batted today, this No.8 isn't his spot. He should be playing at No.4 or No.5. Come in and playing a few deliveries but Dhoni is batting way too low at No.8. The form that we saw today, that spot is too low and you would like to see him come early and help CSK win matches," he added.

Michael Clarke on Dhoni's batting position

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes that irrespective of what position the fans want Dhoni to bat at, the wicketkeeper-batter will continue to bat lower down the order for the Super Kings.

"I don't think he will. I think he'll stay where he is. I think every MS Dhoni fan wants to see him as high up the order as possible. We've all said throughout his career, he should open the batting," Clarke told Star Sports.

"But look, he's at a stage of his career where he's down from the captaincy. I don't think he'll come up the order. I think if there's a game on the line and he needs to go up the order because it's what's best for the team, I'm sure he will," he added.
