Australian opener Travis Head, who heroically scored a century in the 2023 CWC final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, couldn't replicate his success upon returning to the venue on March 31. Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) star batter was bamboozled by Gujarat Titans' Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match.
Head attempted a big shot against an unplayable googly that turned sharply in, resulting in his dismissal. Just few days ago, while making his debut for SRH against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Head played a lightning knock to lead his team to a stunning win. He cracked a fiery 62 runs off just 24 balls before departing. Meanwhile, in his very next match Head could only notch 19 off 14 riding on three fours.
Watch, how Noor Ahmed trapped Travis Head
Travis Head must be disappointed with his dismissal. He was in excellent form, carrying over his momentum from the previous match against Mumbai Indians. His strokeplay was just as fluent, dismantling the MI bowling attack alongside opening partner Mayank Agarwal. Following Agarwal's early dismissal for 11, Head joined forces with Abhishek Sharma. Together, they tore apart the MI bowlers, who were still adjusting under their new captain, Hardik Pandya. Head launched into an attacking mode from the outset, seemingly unstoppable. However, his aggressive approach was halted by a fiery bouncer from Gerald Coetzee.
Coming back to the GT versus SRH's match, Aiden Markram built a solid partnership with Abhishek Sharma, and later with Heinrich Klaasen, ensuring the dominance continued. Travis Head lived up to his hefty price tag of Rs 6.8 crore during his short stay at the crease. He was in a destructive mood, scoring a blazing 50 off just 19 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes, boasting a phenomenal strike rate of 258.33.
However, Gujarat Titans clawed their way back into the match after Head's dismissal. They quickly rattled the SRH batting order, removing key batsmen like Markram, Klaasen, and Sharma. Despite Head's heroics, SRH could only manage a competitive total of 162/8. In reply, GT chased down the target with five balls and seven wickets to spare.
