Sudharsan's inclusion in the ODI squad came on the back of impressive performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). His consistent run in these tournaments has paved the way for this opportunity. He was selected over fellow squad members Rinku Singh and Rajat Patidar, highlighting the selectors' confidence in his abilities.

In this ODI series, Sudharsan opened the batting alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, who himself made a return to the ODI setup. The match also saw the return of Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer, the latter of whom played his last white-ball tour match before joining the Test team.

Prior to his ODI debut, Sudharsan had the chance to acclimatize to South African conditions, participating in an unofficial warm-up match for India A against South Africa A in Potchefstroom, where he scored 14 runs.

Sudharsan's rise in cricket has been noteworthy. He showcased his talent in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a century for Tamil Nadu, which acted as an excellent preparation for the South African challenge. His performance in the IPL 2023 for Gujarat Titans was particularly remarkable, where he scored 362 runs, including an impressive 96 in the final. His performances in the Emerging Asia Cup, especially a century against Pakistan, further bolstered his credentials. Additionally, Sudharsan gained valuable experience in County Cricket, playing for Surrey in two matches.

His journey from domestic circuits to the international arena reflects his hard work, talent, and determination. As he embarks on his ODI career with the Indian cricket team, his progress will be keenly watched by fans and selectors alike, marking him as a potential future star in Indian cricket.
