Sanjay Bangar, the Head of Cricket Development at Punjab Kings, has outlined his team's strategy for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction, particularly if Mumbai Indians decide to release Rohit Sharma. Bangar believes that Rohit would be highly sought after and command a significant price tag if he becomes available in the auction. Punjab Kings (PBKS) are determined to build a world-class squad through the mega-auction. With limited success in the past, the team is aiming to create a strong foundation for future seasons. This will require careful planning and strategic bidding during the auction.

The upcoming mega-auction presents a significant opportunity for Punjab Kings to build a world-class team that can sustain their success for years to come. The team has much work to do at the auction table to achieve this goal. In a recent podcast, Sanjay Bangar was questioned about Punjab Kings' plans if Mumbai Indians were to release Rohit Sharma. Bangar responded that their decision would depend on the amount of money they had available at the time of the auction. He also emphasized that Rohit Sharma would likely be acquired at a "very high price" if he became available.
‘It all depends whether we have money in our pockets or not’: Sanjay Bangar on Rohit Sharma
"It all depends whether we have money in our pockets or not because if Rohit (Sharma) comes into the auction, I certainly believe that he is going to go at a very high price," Bangar said on a video posted on X (formerly Twitter).
PBKS, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are the only IPL teams that have yet to win an IPL trophy.
Punjab's most successful season came in 2014 when they reached the final but were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders. They also made it to the semi-finals in the inaugural IPL season in 2008 but lost to Rajasthan Royals. Frequent changes to the squad have hindered Punjab's consistency over the years. The team management has a significant task ahead if they aim to build a competitive team for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
