Rohit Sharma will lead the India team during T20 World Cup 2024.

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) is heading towards its final stage the countdown for the T20 World Cup has also started. On April 30, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad for the marquee event led by Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper’s form in the IPL is looking like a major concern.  Meanwhile, the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is not concerned about his form and believes the Indian skipper will perform well in the mega tournament. The Indian team will begin their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York.

"India is a very good team. Rohit will play well in the World Cup. He plays well in big tournaments. At the big stage, he will be fine”, Sourav Ganguly told ANI.

Rohit Sharma had a fine start this season as he was giving promising starts and scored a century for Mumbai Indians (MI). However, after that, he has failed to carry that form. The 37-year-old has scored 349 runs in 13 matches at an average of 29.08 and has a strike rate of 145.42.

Ganguly wants Virat Kohli to open in T20 World Cup

Earlier, the former BCCI president praised Virat Kohli for his outstanding form in this IPL and suggested that he should open for the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

“Virat is playing exceptionally well. The way Kohli batted last night – 90 in quick time, you need to use him as opener in T20 World Cup. He should open, evidenced by his last few IPL innings which have been outstanding,” Ganguly said to PTI.

Virat Kohli is batting as an opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and is the highest run-scorer with 661 runs in 13 matches with a blistering strike rate of 155.16.
