Rajasthan Royals suffered a massive 36-run loss defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on May 24 (Friday). However, this was not the end of the bad news for RR as later their heavy-hitting batter Shimron Hetmyer was slapped with a hefty fine by BCCI for committing a Level 1 offence as per the IPL Code of Conduct.
Hetmyer hit with hefty fine
Hetmyer smashed the stumps after being bowled by Abhishek Sharma for which BCCI fined him with 10 per cent of his match fee following RR's exit from Qualifier 2. Hetmyer could only score just 4 runs from 10 balls before getting out.
"Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24," BCCI said.
SRH qualify for the Final
SRH have earned the opportunity to avenge their loss against KKR in the Final of IPL 2024 after defeating RR. They had to face an 8-wicket loss against Knight Riders in Qualifier 1. This pushed them down to the Qualifier 2 clash against RR.
RR elected to bowl first after winning the toss. SRH batters did get the start but they failed to convert it into big scores except Heinrich Klaasen who hit a 34-ball fifty. Hyderabad posted 175/9 in 20 overs. However, RR could not capitalise on restricting SRH under the 200-run mark as they fell short in the chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal did provide his team with a good start by hitting a blazing 21-ball 42 but no other Royals' batter could bank on it. Constant breakthroughs and disciplined bowling restricted RR to just 139/7.
