Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) advanced to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoff after four years as rain played spoilsport in the home clash against Gujarat Titans (GT). The match against Gujarat Titans (GT) was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
The cut-off time for a five-over game was 10:56 PM but the drizzle continued to play spoilsport and officials decided to abandon the game.
As SRH and GT shared one point each, Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals (DC) and KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been officially eliminated from the playoff race.
CSK vs RCB - the knockout encounter!
It also made Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) a virtual knockout encounter. However, RCB will only make their place in the top four if they improve their net run rate (NRR). If RCB beat CSK by at least 18 runs or 11 balls to spare then they will grab the fourth available spot on the basis of NRR as they would be on 14 points.
This was GT's second match that was washed out due to rain. The previous clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, was also abandoned without a ball being bowled. This is the first time GT have not qualified for the playoffs. In their debut season, Hardik Pandya-led them to IPL. In the previous edition, they advanced to the final but lost to MS Dhoni-led CSK in the final on the reserve day.
SRH's top two finish depends on RR
GT are currently at in the eighth place on the points table. If Punjab Kings (PBKS) win their last game, they will slip to ninth position. SRH also have a chance to finish in top two and get an entry into Qualifier 1. SRH will face PBKS in their next game. Even if they beat PBKS, their spot in the top two will not be guaranteed. It will depend on the clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
