Former England's star batter Kevin Pietersen believes Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will have an edge over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final on May 26. As per Pietersen KKR's optimistic attitude will be a key advantage against SRH in the summit clash. He highlights Kolkata's victories over Hyderabad in the league stage as evidence of their upper hand going into the title clash.
The final will be a fascinating clash of leadership styles. KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir, known for his strategic expertise, will face off against Pat Cummins, a leader who inspires his team with a calm and determined demeanor. This IPL final goes beyond just a game, it's a battle of wits between two contrasting leaders – Gambhir's calculating mind versus Cummins' ability to unite and motivate his team. Gambhir will look to impart all those qualities to Shreyas Iyer, who will be spearheading the KKR side.
"I didn't like the way the Sunrisers threw in the towel the other evening in Ahmedabad, and I think it's going to put them on the back foot for the start on Sunday," Pietersen said while speaking on Star Sports.
"The way they just finished that game off, Pat Cummins gave Travis Head the ball, and Shreyas Iyer just went bang, bang, bang. It'll give KKR a lot of confidence going into the finals knowing that they've already beaten SRH a couple of days ago," Pietersen added.
While the toss might influence the game's course, Kevin Pietersen believes the Kolkata Knight Riders' strong mental state will ultimately give them the advantage over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
"The toss is 50-50. I actually think that you have to consider the possibility of dew and also be prepared if it doesn't come. It's all about the mindset and confidence coming into this fixture," Pietersen said.
"That's where I think KKR have an advantage, given the way they've played, their convincing win in qualifier one, and their preparation over the last three or four days," Pietersen concluded.
The IPL 2024 season comes full circle as KKR and SRH, who faced off in the opening match, now clash in the final. This season has been a fan's delight, with numerous matches exceeding 200 runs thanks to record-breaking performances. Kolkata has already defeated Hyderabad in their league stage encounter. This past success could translate into psychological confidence for the upcoming final.
