Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) made a memorable comeback in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, despite last in the points table tally they made it to the eliminator where they will face Rajasthan Royals at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The franchise won six consecutive matches to seal their berth in the knockouts. They made this much needed comeback after defeating defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their do-or-die clash in Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli's heroics behind RCB's success
Virat Kohli is one of the main reason behind Bengaluru's comeback because he constantly scored runs for his franchise throughout the season. The 35-year-old batter is currently the highest run-getter of the tournament as he scored 708 runs in his 14 outings with the highest score of 113*.
Faf du Plessis & Co. now need to win two matches to qualify for the final where they will face Kolkata Knight Riders at M. A. Chidambaram (Chepauk) Stadium in Chennai.
Here are the past events providing hints for RCB to play in IPL 2024 Final
1) In 2009 under Anil Kumble's leadership, Bengaluru based franchise had a bad start by winning just four matches out of their 10 outings. They won their fifth match by beating Chennai in the semifinal but unfortunately they lost the final against Deccan Chargers at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
2) Bengaluru also bounced back in 2011 as they just won one match out of their five IPL outings later they went on a remarkable winning streak in the league stage, finishing first in the points table. After their stellar performance in the tournament they faced CSK in the final at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and were defeated by 58 runs.
3) RCB won four matches out of 10 outings in IPL 2016 and they won five matches on the trot in the league stage which helped them to secure playoffs berth. But unfortunately they lost in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Whenever RCB won six consecutive matches during the league stage they featured in the final and RCB's morale will be high since their women's team won the maiden title in WPL 2024. Kohli will also look to break his record of most runs in an IPL season. He just needs 266 runs break his 973 runs record.
