Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has answered the massive question around Tema India's wicket-keeper options for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup 2024. This particular spot has many contenders fighting for it. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson are some of those names. However, veteran player Dinesh Karthik has thrown his name in the hat with his astonishing performance in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 but Yuvraj Singh believes that Karthik is a fantastic option for the spot but selectors should only consider him if they will give him a chance in the playing XI.
Yuvraj Singh on Dinesh Karthik
Yuvraj Singh has backed Dinesh Karthik's selection but has also highlighted that the last time he was selected for the T20 World Cup 2022, he hardly got a chance in the playing XI. So, if the same is gonna be repeated, they should give that spot to someone younger.
"DK (Karthik) has been batting well, but the thing with DK is the last time (2022) they picked him and the T20 World Cup was on he didn’t get to play,” Yuvraj was quoted by the ICC.
"If DK is not in your XI I don’t think there is any point in picking him,” he added. "There is Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and both guys are in great form and obviously they are younger. I would like to see DK in the mix, but if he is not going to play then you would rather have someone who is younger and can make the difference," he added.
Dinesh Karthik's terrific run in IPL 2024
Dinesh Karthik has been playing the role of finisher terrifically for RCB in the ongoing season. He has amassed 262 runs in 9 matches with an average of 52.40 and an astonishing strike rate of 195.52.
Karthik has been consistently performing well for Bengaluru and that too at a terrific rate. His 83 runs knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad was a delight to watch. BCCI would soon be announcing the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 and it would be interesting to see if they give Karthik a chance.
