Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pace sensation did not let Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter finish in style by taking three wickets in the last over the innings in addition to a run out off the last ball. Malik not only registered his best bowling figures in the format but entered the elite list of bowlers who have bowled a maiden last over of the innings.
Umran started the over with a dot ball followed by the wicket of Odean Smith. It was followed by another dot ball. Then Malik rattled Rahul Chahar's stumps off the fourth delivery. Vaibhav Arora tried something similar off the first ball he faced but had his stumps disturbed as well. On the last ball, Arshdeep Singh took his time to avoid the hat-trick but ended up getting run out.
In total, four wickets fell in the last over of PBKS innings as they managed to post 151 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. This is the third time in the history of T20 cricket, last four wickets have fallen without adding a single run.
Earlier Malik got the wicket of PBKS wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma in his first spell. He conceded 28 runs and picked up four wickets. He is the fourth bowler after Irfan Pathan (PBKS vs MI, Mohali in 2008), Lasith Malinga (MI vs Deccan in 2009) Jaydev Unadkat (Rising Pune Supergiants vs SRH in 2017) to not concede a single run in the last over.
PBKS suffered a horrible batting collapse in the last two overs. On the last ball of the penultimate over, set batter Livingstone got out to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He scored 60 runs from 33 deliveries including five fours and four sixes.
“Needs some time (to realise what he's done). In Jammu, it usually gets to 47 or 48 degrees, so it doesn't matter (the heat), it's actually nice to play in this heat. I think I have got my line and length better over the last few days, the plan was to keep it full and straight, and in that channel just outside off,” the 22-year-old Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler said in the mid-innings break.
