Dwayne Bravo has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2011 and the ‘champion’ all-rounder has made the habit of playing a major role in the team’s victories over the past few years.  Friday was no different for the three-time winners, who defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets as Bravo scalped three RCB batters including the crucial wickets of skipper Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell.

The West Indies cricketer-cum-singer is also famous for his off-the-field antics. The veteran all-rounder in a conversation with teammate Ambati Rayudu in a video posted on IPLT20.com post the team’s win, revealed the reason why he is called ‘Champion’.  Bravo with his tongue-in-cheek reply said,

“I sang a song called ‘Champion’ and then everyone started calling me ‘Champion’. They call me ‘Champion’ because I keep winning. Do you ever win anything?”

The 37-year-old, who was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant spell of three wickets for 24 runs, termed the win as a great team performance. The all-rounder praised the bowling performance of the team in the death overs and also lauded Ravindra Jadeja’s spell calling it crucial for the team.

The star player also attached the importance to bowling in the nets and his preparation before the game.

“As a bowling group, we always pride ourselves at the backend of the innings. We know it is tough when we come up against quality players but we just have to back our skills. For me, bowling in the next is important. The day before the game, I try bowling around the wickets, wide Yorkers. I just try to mix up the angles and give myself the best option to go straight or go wide. It worked today.”
