The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to begin on March 31 and players participating in the cash-rich tournament have already started training with their respective franchises. The greatest franchise-based T20 league in the world is considered to be the batters' competition as the bat always seems to dominate the ball. Over the last 15 seasons of the cash-rich league, the Orange Cap which is awarded to the leading run-scorer in the tournament has been won 10 times by an overseas player.

Sachin and Virat have won the Orange Cap

Australia's swashbuckling opening batter David Warner has won the Orange Cap three times, which is the most by any player. Former West Indies' explosive batter Chris Gayle has secured the Orange Cap on two occasions while former India captains Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have also won the prestigious honour.

 

Here's the full list of Orange Cap winners:

 

IPL 2008: Australia's Shaun Marsh, who played for Kings XI Punjab, won the first Orange Cap of the competition after scoring 616 runs in 11 matches.

IPL 2009: Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden captured the Orange Cap by scoring 572 runs in 12 matches for Chennai Super Kings.

IPL 2010: Sachin Tendulkar captured the Orange Cap by scoring 618 runs in 15 matches for Mumbai Indians. He became the first Indian batter to win the Orange Cap.

IPL 2011: West Indies' Chris Gayle captured the Orange Cap by scoring 608 runs in 12 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

IPL 2012: Chris Gayle secured the Orange Cap for the second time in a row after hitting 733 runs in 15 matches.

IPL 2013: Former Australian batter Michael Hussey won the Orange Cap by hitting 733 runs in 17 matches for Chennai Super Kings.

IPL 2014: India's Robin Uthappa captured the Orange Cap for Kolkata Knight Riders by scoring 660 runs in 16 matches.

IPL 2015: Australia's David Warner exploded with the bat and captured this cap by scoring 562 runs in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

IPL 2016: India's Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap by scoring 973 runs in 16 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore

IPL 2017: Warner again showed his prowess and after scoring 641 runs in 14 matches, he won the Orange Cap.

IPL 2018: New Zealand's Kane Williamson secured the Orange Cap after scoring 735 runs in 17 matches.

IPL 2019: Warner captured the Orange Cap for the third time after scoring 692 runs in 12 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

IPL 2020: India's KL Rahul won the Orange Cap by scoring 670 runs in 14 matches for Punjab Kings.

IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings' young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Orange Cap by scoring 635 runs in 16 matches.

IPL 2022: England's Jos Buttler captured the Orange Cap after smashing 863 runs in 17 matches for Rajasthan Royals.
