Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary has been ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Choudhary was doubtful ahead of IPL 2023 as he is still undergoing rehab for his back injury which has prevented him from playing competitive cricket this year.

Choudhary has been out of action since December. The 26-year-old pacer made his last List A (One-Day) appearance against Saurashtra where he picked up two wickets.

Choudhary was expensive as he conceded at 9.32 runs per over but he took 16 wickets from 13 appearances. However, acquiring his services was not an expensive task for CSK who picked him for his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the mega auction.

While Choudhary will be missing from CSK's bowling attack, Deepak Chahar is available after missing the previous season due to back injury.

Akash Singh will replace Choudhary in CSK squad for IPL 2023. He made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2021 but remained wicketless and conceded 39 runs from his quota of four overs. The 20-year-old was a part of India's Under-19 World Cup 2020 squad. So far, he has played nine T20s and picked up seven wickets at ana verage of 34.85 and an economy rate of 7.87 runs per over.

MS Dhoni-led CSK will take on defending champions Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 opener. Dhoni's participation in IPL opener was in doubt as well due to a niggle in his knee, according to several media reports. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Sports Tak that Dhoni is fine and he will lead the side in the IPL 2023 opener.
