Big blow to struggling Delhi Capitals, star Australian player to fly back home for his wedding

Delhi Capitals (DC) are yet to win their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Ahead of a crucial clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 8, Capitals will be one overseas player short as Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will be flying back home for his wedding.

Marsh will be unavailable for a week which means he is likely to miss three matches. Batting at no.3, the 31-year-old has not been in the best of forms with the bat. He got out for a golden duck to Lucknow Super Giants' Mark Wood in the first game. Against Gujarat Titans (GT), he got bowled by their strike bowler Mohammed Shami. He could score just four runs in the second game. However, with the ball he took one wicket and conceded 24 runs from 3.1 overs at Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 4.

In Marsh’s absence, South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw is likely to get a promotion up the order. Marsh can be replaced by either Philip Salt or Rovman Powell in the next game.

In the absence of an injured Rishabh Pant, David Warner is leading the side. DC have lost both their games comprehensively. LSG beat DC by 50 runs in their campaign opener at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Playing after a long time at their home, Warner's side was beaten by six wickets with 11 balls to spare by defending champions GT. DC are currently placed eighth on the points table as their net run rate (NRR) is slightly better than Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Delhi Capitals full squad: David Warner (captain), Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Sarfaraz Khan, Aman Hakim Khan, Abhishek Porel (wk), Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Rovman Powell, Rilee Rossouw, Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahaman, Chetan Sakariya, Mukesh Kumar, Phil Salt, Lungi Ngidi, Praveen Dubey, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, Vicky Ostwal, Ishant Sharma, Manish Pandey, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Yash Dhull.
