Sources have informed Sports Tak that the Delhi Capitals (DC) will be bringing on Bengal's young wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel into the Delhi squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, in the absence of the injured Rishabh Pant.
Pant suffered a gruesome injury in December 2022 and is set to miss out on playing for Delhi in IPL 2023 after being sidelined for quite a long time. In his absence, the three viable candidates were Sarfaraz Khan, Manish Pandey and Englishman Phil Salt.
But a source has told Sports Tak that the 20-year-old, who has played 3 T20s for the state, will make it to the squad. "Since Rishabh pant is not available, in his absence Abishek Porel will keep the wicket as the first option. We have Sarfaraz as the second option and we have a proper plan for keeping. With time we will use both of them as and when required," the source informed.
In addition to his three T20s, Porel has also played 16 first-class matches and three List-A games for Bengal. According to reports, Porel was called to the Delhi Capitals' pre--Season camp at the Jadavpur University campus in Kolkata and impressed the coaches which resulted in the summoning.
More recently, he also excelled in a practice match, which also acted as a trial, and might prove to be an unknown commodity at the top of the order for the Capitals.
Meanwhile, in a recent video of a practice session that took place with the Capitals team at their home ground Arun Jaitley Stadium, the player who was involved with the most wicketkeeping practice was none other than Sarfaraz Khan, which might answer a lot of questions for the wondering fans.
Sarfaraz Khan, who has been scoring a lot in domestic cricket, was practicing with his keeping gloves on. The video of Sarfaraz's keeping drills is becoming viral on social media.
