Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could not get over the line in a high-scoring run chase at their home ground M. Chinnaswamy Stadium but he did not give up easily. During the run chase, skipper Faf Du Plessis got medical attention a couple of times. Du Plessis kept the run chase alive with a game-changing partnership with Glenn Maxwell but he got injured during the knock. A photo of him wearing bandage around his ribs has gone viral on social media.

In the post-match presentation, the former South Africa skipper revealed when he got injured as he said, “Early on in the match, I was diving around and I thought I went at it with my rib and that was the cause of discomfort.”

Du Plessis scored 62 runs from 33 balls including five fours and four sixes. He shared a 126-run partnership with Maxwell, the highest for third-wicket for RCB. He lost his wicket in the 14th over to Moeen Ali. But RCB’s finishers fell short of the target by eight runs.

“I think we played it perfectly, the last five overs were set up for the finish. DK finishing the game, that's bread and butter for him, but that shows how good their bowling was,” he said.

Du Plessis also rued the opportunity to finish the game for his team. The 38-year-old felt that there was a need to go hard against spinners in middle overs which Maxwell and Du Plessis managed well.

“We couldn't manage to finish it off, but we got to move on. I lost a little bit of power towards the end, was disappointed as I got stiff. Need to keep going harder against the spinners in the middle overs,” he said.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni praised Maxwell and Du Plessis as he felt that the game would have gotten over in the 18th over had they continued.

“If Faf and Maxi had continued, they would have won it by the 18th over. I keep assessing from behind the wicket, I am always involved in what needs to be done rather than thinking about the result,” Dhoni said after CSK’s third win of the season.
