Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant played a brilliant knock of 43 runs off 29 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT). Pant’s innings was comprised of seven boundaries. But eventually, DC had to suffer a 14-run defeat against the Hardik Pandya-led side in the match.

While talking about Pant’s batting, Indian team’s batting coach Vikram Rathour recently expressed that the DC skipper “has now matured as a player.”

Rathour's praise

“He has suddenly grown up. Rohit and Dravid are in the saddle now, and he knows he is an important player in the India setup. He has now matured as a player. He is getting better and better, but there is still a long way to cover,” Rathour told The Week.

The Indian wicketkeeper-batter has often been criticised for his shot selection and his role as a batter in the Indian team has been discussed a lot. Though, Rathour believes that Pant “will be a finisher at number five or six.”

“He will be a finisher at number five or six, he knows that. Nobody is pushing him to get a hundred in ODIs. He will always be an impact player and if he is consistently getting 40-50 and winning it for the team, then that is fine,” Rathour further added.

Pant in IPL 2022

In the 15th edition of Indian Premier League, the Delhi-based franchise managed to win one of their first two matches. In their first match of the IPL 2022 season, they had to face five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). Batting first, MI had posted a total of 177/5 in 20 overs. In reply, DC reached the target successfully with 10 balls remaining. But their skipper failed to do much as he went back to the dressing room scoring just a single run.

A short ball bowled by Tymal Mills in the fifth over of the innings did the trick as Pant’s shot produced a top edge which was eventually caught by Tim David.

In the next much, DC skipper displayed his supreme batting skills as he scored 43 runs off 29 balls against GT. Earlier, batting first, the Gujarat-based team had posted a total of 171/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, Pant tried to put up a fight but his efforts ultimately turned out to be inconsequential as DC had to suffer a 14-run defeat.
