Virat Kohli has been having a tough time with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After two consecutive golden ducks, Kohli could not get going after change in batting position and got out for a single-digit score against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 26. As Kohli continues to struggle, his former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Rudra Pratap Singh is surprised that the veteran batter is edging too many deliveries.
“He has obviously achieved big things. But right now, you will have to admit that he is not in form. We haven't seen so many edges off Virat Kohli's bat, he always dominates the bowlers. But he is not getting into that rhythm at the moment,” Singh told Cricbuzz.
While many current and former cricketers have said that Kohli is not too far away from a big knock and it is just a matter of time, the former left-arm fast bowler believes that he should take a break. Also, he feels that if Kohli does not perform, then RCB will have to rest him as they have lost four out of their nine games.
“The team management is trying, and he is trying as well. But he is miles away from form at the moment. You can call it rest.. because if he plays one or two more games and doesn't perform, you will have to think about resting anyway. So, they need to give him a break, maybe that will help him get back to run-scoring. Maybe he is overloaded with thoughts about scoring runs right now,” the 36-year-old said.
Kohli has scored 128 runs from nine games at an average of 16 in the ongoing season. He has crossed 40 twice but his single-digit scores have had a big impact on RCB top order.
After RCB’s loss to Royals, Faf du Plessis explained why he changed Kohli’s batting order. The former South African skipper said that he does not want Kohli wants to get into the action straightaway instead of thinking on the sidelines.
