Here's why David Warner was given not out by umpire despite Yashasvi Jaiswal's catch off legitimate delivery

David Warner was given a second life during Delhi Capitals’ (DC) clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on April 8. There was confusion in the middle as Yashasvi Jaiswal broke the basic rule of limited overs cricket before taking Warner’s catch off impact player Murugan Ashwin’s bowling.

The incident took place in the 17th over of Capitals' innings. Ashwin bowled a googly and Warner went on the back foot to lift it over cover. Warner got the height but not the distance as Jaiswal took the catch.

While Royals' players were celebrating the wicket of DC skipper, third umpire KN Anantha Padmanabhan intervened and Warner was told to not leave the field. In the replay, it was clear that Jaiswal was standing outside the 30-yard circle before the ball was bowled.

Hence, the third umpire called it a no ball and Warner was called back. As per rules, at least four fielders need to be inside the 30-yard circle.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin had a heated argument with the on-field umpire as the decision was reversed.

While the reversal of decision robbed Murugan of a wicket, it did not have an impact on the outcome of the game. Warner could add just four more runs to his score. He got dismissed lbw by Yuzvendra Chahal off the final ball of the penultimate over. DC ended up losing the match by a big margin of 57 runs.

Jaiswal was later awarded ‘Player of the match’ for his 31-ball 60 that got Royals off to a blazing start. In the post-match presentation, he was asked what Royals skipper Sanju Samson said after the incident.

“I didn't know. Sanju bhai said 'koi baat nahin theek hai' (Sanju Samson said It is ok),” the opener said.

The comprehensive win helped RR reach the top of the points table. On the other hand, DC suffered their third loss in a row under Warner’s captaincy.
